Judy McKenzie

Judy is an Essex based Artist. She recently completed an MA at The Royal College of Art which led her to explore the processes of Nerikomi and Kintsugi, Japanese ceramic techniques, for the creation of unique and decorative ceramic objects. She hand dyes her clays to varying tones to satisfy her palette, these are then blended and pressed then cut across to expose an infinite array of patterns. Every particle is worked by hand, patterns embedded within the porcelain. She says ‘A design can be imposed but the clay will distort and twist, creating it’s own unique voice’.

She takes influence from the world around her, for example some of the pieces shown here were inspired by some of the amazing skies she witnessed during the recent lockdown months.

Her award-winning work was selected to be exhibited within the Royal College of Arts Graduation show in Hangzhou, China.
